Regulations on Paper Submission

Article 1 (Government) The Regulations on Paper Submission for the Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society (hereinafter, "the Journal"), the Bulletin of the Korean Mathematical Society (hereinafter, "the Bulletin") and the Communications of the Korean Mathematical Society (hereinafter, "the Communications") are established and enforced in accordance with Article 29, Section 4, Clause 2 of the Bylaws of the Korean Mathematical Society.

Article 2 (Scope) These regulations apply to all papers submitted to the Journal, the Bulletin and the Communications.

Article 3 (Submission)

  • Section 1
    Papers submitted to the Journal and the Bulletin shall be original work from any area of research in theoretical or applied mathematics.
  • Section 2
    Papers submitted to the Communications shall be either original work, survey papers or research articles in any field of mathematics.
  • Section 3
    Papers submitted to the Journal, the Bulletin and the Communications shall be work that have not been published elsewhere.
  • Section 4
    For papers submitted to the Journal, the Bulletin, and the Communications, if sex and gender are relevant to the topic of the study, the paper shall include sex/gender analysis. Otherwise, justify why it is irrelevant.

Article 4 (Copyright) Copyrights of all papers published in the Journal, the Bulletin and the Communications belong to the Korean Mathematical Society.

Article 5 (Format) The title, name of author(s) and abstract of a paper shall be specified on top of the first page of the paper. Address of author(s) shall be listed at the end on the last page of the paper.

Article 6 (Title) The title of a paper shall be clear and concise to represent the contents of the paper.

Article 7 (Abstract) The abstract of a paper shall be written in ordinary and complete sentences to give summarized explanations of the contents of the paper and shall not exceed 300 words.

Article 8 (Footnote) The following shall be specified in the footnote of the first page of a paper.

Article 9 (Manuscript) Manuscripts of papers shall be written in English using LaTeX or TeX.

Article 10 (File Submission) Original PDF files of submitting papers shall be provided to the Electronic Editorial System of the Korean Mathematical Society. Authors shall keep all original files of their papers.

Article 11 (Publication Fee) Publication fee payments shall be made for publications in the Korean Mathematical Society Journals.

Article 12 (Code of Ethics) If violations of research ethics are found, sanctions may be imposed under bylaws and it may be taken to the Committee for Research Ethics. Violations of research ethics include duplicate submission, duplicate publication, plagiarism and violations of Korean Mathematical Society Journals Regulations.

Article 13 (Miscellaneous) Points of contention that are not specified in these regulations shall be resolved by a decision of the Administration Editorial Committee or the Editorial Committee of each journal.

Supplementary Provisions

1. These regulations are enforced from 1 January 1997.
2. These regulations are enforced from 1 January 1998.
3. These regulations are enforced from 1 January 2000.
4. These regulations are enforced from 1 January 2008.
5. These regulations are enforced from 1 January 2011.
6. These regulations are enforced from 24 October 2015.
7. These regulations are enforced from 26 October 2019.
8. These regulations are enforced from 1 January 2022.

Regulations on Paper Reviewing

Article 1 (Government) The Regulations on Paper Reviewing are established and enforced in accordance with Article 4 Section 2 of the Articles of the Korean Mathematical Society and with Article 14 and Article 29 Section 4 Clause 2 of the Bylaws of the Korean Mathematical Society.

Article 2 (Publication Quality) The journals of the Korean Mathematical Society shall publish only papers that are of international-level quality.

Article 3 (Publication Decision) The Editor-in-Chief of each journal shall use review processes to make a final decision whether or not to publish submitted papers.

Article 4 (Receipt of Submission) If a paper is submitted that does not comply with the Regulations on Paper Submission, Secretariat of the Korean Mathematical Society or the Publications Committee of the journal shall either reject the submission or encourage its author(s) to resubmit after making supplementary revisions.

Article 5 (Criteria of Paper Review)

  • Section 1
    Submitted papers shall be reviewed on the basis of the following items by evaluating each item on a scale of four grades (excellent, above average, average and below average).
    1.1 Originality of work
    1.2 Significance of result
    1.3 Clarity of language expression
    1.4 Accuracy of contents
    1.5 Contributions to academia
  • Section 2
    Reviewers shall only recommend publications of papers that received grades of "excellent" or "above average" for all items above. For papers that received an "average" or "below average" grade for one or more of the items, the Publications Committee shall decide whether to reconsider after supplementary revisions are made or to reject publication. For exceptional cases of Criteria of Paper Review, the final decision of the reviewing results is decided by the editor-in-chief.

Article 6 (Reviewing) Submitted papers shall be reviewed by either members of the relevant Publications Committee or selected reviewers.

Article 7 (Reviewing Process)

  • Section 1
    For papers submitted to the Society, the editor-in-chief of the relevant Publications Committee shall ask a committee member of the corresponding area of research to review if necessary.
  • Section 2
    Publications Committee members shall select the most appropriate reviewers to review submitted papers.
  • Section 3
    Reviewers shall keep the duration of a reviewing process to under two months in accordance with Article 6 of the Regulations on Paper Reviewing.
  • Section 4
    If the reviewers judge that a paper should be revised, the reviewer shall report to the corresponding member of the Publications Committee, who may then ask the author(s) of the paper to revise it.
  • Section 5
    Reviewers shall recommend to the corresponding members of the Publications Committee whether or not to publish the papers that they have completed reviewing. The corresponding members shall then use a prescribed form to report the review results to the editor-in-chief.

Article 8 (Reconsideration) Papers rejected for publication are not to be reconsidered.

Article 9 (Miscellaneous) Points of contention that are not specified in these regulations shall be resolved by a decision of the Administration Editorial Committee or the Editorial Committee of the relevant journal.

1. These regulations are enforced from 1 January 1997.
2. These regulations are enforced from 1 January 1998.
3. These regulations are enforced from 1 January 2000.
4. These regulations are enforced from 1 January 2011.
5. These regulations are enforced from 24 October 2015.
6. These regulations are enforced from 26 October 2019.

Regulations on Publication and Distribution

Article 1 (Purpose) The purpose of the Regulations on Publication and Distribution is to prescribe the details related to the publication and distribution of the journals specified by Article 14 of the Bylaws of the Korean Mathematical Society.

Article 2 (Date of Issue) The journals of the Korean Mathematical Society are issued on the following dates.

    Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society: 1 Jan, 1 Mar, 1 May, 1 Jul, 1 Sep, 1 Nov
  • 2.2
    Bulletin of the Korean Mathematical Society: 31 Jan, 31 Mar, 31 May, 31 Jul, 30 Sep, 30 Nov
  • 2.3
    Communications of the Korean Mathematical Society: 31 Jan, 30 Apr, 31 Jul, 31 Oct

Article 3 (Publication)

  • Section 1
    The journals can be published online before the date of issue.
  • Section 2
    The order of publication of papers shall be in the order of the date of first submission, among papers for which authors have completed corrections on galley proofs.

Article 4 (Distribution)

  • Section 1
    One issue of each of the Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, the Bulletin of the Korean Mathematical Society and the Communications of the Korean Mathematical Society is distributed to all Board Delegates who have made membership fee payments for the pertinent year.
  • Section 2
    Journals may be provided to members who have made subscription fee payments set by the Board of Directors.
  • Section 3
    The Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, the Bulletin of the Korean Mathematical Society and the Communications of the Korean Mathematical Society are sent to institutions (including libraries) that have made membership fee payments for the pertinent year.
  • Section 4
    Distribution may be discontinued for members who have not made membership fee payments.
  • Section 5
    Journals may be sold to non-domestic institutions. Yearly subscription fees for this purpose shall be set by the Board of Directors.

Article 5 (Exchange)

  • Section 1
    Journals may be exchanged for publications of other organizations, domestic or international.
  • Section 2
    Publications acquired in journal exchanges are managed in the reference room of the Korean Mathematical Society.

Supplementary Provisions

1. These regulations are enforced from 22 October 1999.
2. These regulations are enforced from 1 January 2004.
3. These regulations are enforced from 1 January 2006.
4. These regulations are enforced from 1 January 2008.
5. These regulations are enforced from 1 January 2009.
6. These regulations are enforced from 1 January 2011.
7. These regulations are enforced from 1 January 2014.
8. These regulations are enforced from 24 October 2015.
